Programmable Digital Voltage Monitoring Relay RNPP-302M
Novatek Electro India’s RNPP-302M is a high-performance, multifunctional three-phase voltage monitoring relay. While standard relays often focus on a single parameter, the RNPP-302M acts as a comprehensive “supervisor” for three-phase electrical systems, offering digital precision and advanced protection logic.
How It Works
The RNPP-302M operates by continuously measuring the True RMS (Root Mean Square) voltage of the three-phase network.
- Sensing: It monitors either phase voltage (220–240V) or line voltage (380–415V), depending on your configuration.
- Logic Processing: A built-in microcontroller compares the live readings against user-defined thresholds (min/max voltage, asymmetry, phase loss. sequence, collision, etc.).
- Output Action: If the voltage falls outside the safe zone, the relay opens its output contacts, which are typically wired to an external magnetic contactor. This contactor then physically disconnects the power from the load (like a motor or compressor).
- Automatic Reclosing: Once the voltage returns to a “healthy” state, the relay waits for a pre-programmed Automatic Reset (AR) delay before re-energizing the load. This prevents equipment from being “jolted” by rapid on/off power cycles.
What Makes It Different from Other Relays?
Standard voltage monitoring relays are often “blind” once they send a trip signal. The RNPP-302M differentiates itself through several unique capabilities:
- Contactor Health Monitoring: Most relays assume the contactor has successfully disconnected the power. The RNPP-302M actually monitors the output side of the contactor. It can detect if contactor contacts are “stuck” or “welded” together, providing an extra layer of safety.
- True RMS Measurement: While cheap relays use “average” voltage sensing (which can be fooled by electrical noise or non-sinusoidal waves), the RNPP-302M uses True RMS, ensuring accurate trips even in electrically “noisy” industrial environments.
- Programmable Flexibility: It features 4 independent operating modes:
- Phase Loss Only: Disables voltage level control.
- Minimum Voltage Only.
- Maximum Voltage Only.
- Symmetrical (Both Min/Max) Monitoring.
- Digital Interface: Instead of using imprecise analog dials (potentiometers), it uses a 3-digit LED display and buttons for precise digital programming and real-time monitoring.
Key Features
- Comprehensive Protection: Covers over/under voltage, phase loss, phase sequence (rotation), phase coincidence (shorting), and phase asymmetry.
- Remote Control Input: Includes a digital input that allows for an Emergency Stop button or remote signal to manually trip the load regardless of voltage status.
- Adjustable Time Delays: You can set separate delay times for tripping (how long a fault must last before the power is cut) and for reclosing (how long to wait for the power to stabilize before turning back on).
- Dual Relay Outputs: * Load Relay: 8A changeover contact (SPDT) to control the main contactor.
- Alarm Relay: A separate normally open (NO) contact specifically for signalization (to trigger a buzzer or warning light).
- Wide Operating Range: Operates effectively in temperatures from -35°C to +55°C, making it suitable for harsh industrial conditions.
